April 11, 200520 yr Hello All, I want to restrict the printing under a particular password to a specific number of pages. For Eg - if the no. of pages to print exceeds 50 then the user should not be able to print. Is it possible and how. Thanks. Yogesh.
April 11, 200520 yr Here's a snippet of scripting that will get you the number of pages: First, create a global number field (gPage) Script to add: Go to layout[the layout to print] Enter preview mode Go to record/request/page[last] Setfield [gPage,Status(CurrentPageNumber) Enter browse mode The global field will now have the number of pages that will print.
November 21, 200520 yr Hi, if i do not wish to allow user to print how should i go about doing it? I am referring when user access the file on Instant Web publishing. As user can actually access 'print' from internet explorer to print. Can I actually dun allow that? I tried sliding and dun allow printing under password & preveliage groups. But to no avail, as said IWP users can print through internet explorer. Help needed.. thanks a lot.. Kelvin
November 21, 200520 yr In IWP you cannot control what the user prints, since you have no control over their browser. However a strategy might be to limit the amount of information sent to the browser in the first place. If they cannot see it they cannot print it.
November 22, 200520 yr Hi Vaughan, But company policy allows users to view but not print.. thats the problem.. im only a industry attachment student.. help..... Kelvin
November 22, 200520 yr Printing can be restricted through the FMP client, but not through the web interface. You're going to have to tell them that printing cannot be restricted through the web browser. In fact not only can they print, they can also copy and paste the data into Excel if they want! The web is not secure.
November 22, 200520 yr sad.. or anyway i can do anything with the internet explorer to disable the printing and right click?? Thanks Kelvin
November 22, 200520 yr You are missing the point here. The web works by downloading data to the user's hard disk (in the browser cache) then displaying the data in the browser window. If the user can see the data then it is already on the person's computer, and you have no control over what they do with it from there. To provide security you need to use the FMP client and set it up appropriately.
November 23, 200520 yr Oh.. sorry i nv know that.. but can you tell me how to access those data if right click, print screen and print are disabled? i will like to learn.. Thanks.. Kelvin
