I am havong a bit of difficulty in figureing out how to make FM5 sort a field with long entries. below are tow of the vaues that are in the field.

World War, 1939-1945--Campaigns--France

World War, 1939-1945--Campaigns--Africa, North

when I sort on these (in a sub-summary) the are both put into a group as "World War, 1939-1945--Campaigns" and the last part is dropped. This is really confusing me as some other entries sort just fine with longer text values than these.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

FM 5 indexes up to 20 characters per word and 60 per line.

1939-1945--Campaigns--France is seen as one word but only indexes up to the s in Campaigns.

Try using a calculated field of Substitute( Substitute( Substitute( YourField, "-", "_" ), "__", "_" ), ",", "" ) and sort by this instead. This will eliminate unneeded spaces and commas and convert hyphens to underscores (a valid word separator). You can use spaces instead of underscores if you wish; it is just easier to make the double underscore appear in a post here.
