Hi

I recently purchased another client copy of FMP which is now version 7 - all the other FMP licences we have for clients are other v6 or v5.5 - we are running FMP Server on v6 too.

I found the following 'help' file on filemaker.com but don't understand it.

filemaker help page

Does anyone know if I can use a v7 client to access v6 files without having to make any changes to the rest of my setup. Alternatively, how do I use the FMP7 which I've purchased with a copy of FMP6?

Any/all help gratefully received.

Short answer, you can't use v7 to open v6 files. You can only use it to convert the files to v7 files. There aren't any easy ways to move data between a v6 server and a v7 client. You're probably better off moving completely to v7, or just scrounging for used copies of v6 somewhere other than FMI.

Contact FMI, You can downgrade a v7 lic to v6, but you have to do it with them direct. Ir requires you to fax a copy of your purchase, not sure which document, but they will help you through it.

Lee: thanks very much. I'll have a word with them and see if they can help me because I really don't want to go through the effort of upgrading everything to v7 just because an old OS9 copy of FMP is going to be upgraded to OS X (for Mac) - time and money effort I mean.

Thanks again

Of course, however it may be something you will have to bite the bullet on in the future anyway. :)
