Operating System compatability

Featured Replies

Most of my users have PCs. I wish they were MACs, but so be it. I develop on a MAC Panther; cross-platform test on XP Pro.

I'm ready to deploy my redeveloped FM6 solution in FM7 after 6 months of re-development. I picked one of my PC users for first app who seems to experience all the sins of my FM6 system. I installed the runtime solution and launched the application. I got no further than 'The support.dll file is linked to missing export NETAPI32.DLL:netApiBuffer Free....'.

Found out that they are on Windows ME. I checked the system requirements for FM7 and found Windows 2000 or XP is required (plus some level of service packs). Not being all that knowledgeable in WIndows, I don't know whether ME and 2000 are the same and whether the application should have worked in the ME environment.

Is my problem simply an incompatible operating system or do I have some problem in my software?

TIA

Windows ME is basically a (slightly) improved version of Windows 98. It is completely different from Windows 2000, and is not supported by v7 (or runtimes generated by FMD v7)

Friends don't let friends use ME. For their own sake, I would encourage them to upgrade ASAP! Even a downgrade to 98SE, which will not help you as far as FM7 is concerned, would be better for them to use.

Windows ME is perfectly stable. I've had it sitting on my shelf for 5 years and the box hasn't fallen over once.

Then you are lucky! I've seen it trash computer after computer after computer. We wouldn't put ME on a box here, even if someone held a gun to our heads. wink.gif

It was a joke! Windows ME ... still in the cardboard box ... oh, nevermind. My delivery is all wrong.

Doh! I thought you meant box as in what we call a terminal. This is what I get for staying up till 5 every night for a week. Yawn.gif

Great joke! applause.gif

I though it was funny when I read it.

Hi Ralph,

I did too, in fact I LOL just envisioning ME causing all of these problems and not even being installed.

Jerry, there is nothing wrong with your timing. In fact, I laugh pretty hard with this post, and the one you posted to LaRetta thread yesterday. Your description brought to mind the Exorcist for some reason.
