submitting to a database

Featured Replies

Hi there. I am looking for a way that I can have online forms that submit straight to my database. I was told about CDML in FM6, and XML in FM7, but am not sure which one to use.

Thanks

Howdy! FM6 CDML is fairly easy to do, especially if you know HTML and/or have any coding experience. If you've never done any programming, you could probably struggle through it well enough, but CDML is dead (or at least comatose with little chance of revival) so you'll probably want to look at FM7, but FM7 Server Advanced for web publishing ain't cheap.

If you want to see CDML in action (or even try Instant Web Publishing), you have all that you need already in your standard version of FileMaker Pro 5 client. It can web publish pretty much the same as FM6 Unlimited would except it is restricted in the number of IP address connections so it won't work well outside of a local LAN or a small handful of users. FM6 Unlimited ain't cheap, either, but it's less than FM7 Server Advanced.

FM4 client can web publish unrestricted, but it's a little slower, a little less stable, and is missing a few CDML commands/functions.

Any way I can get a form submission service that I can pull the submited forms off the server and import them into FM?

You could look at the POPit plugin which receives emailed Forms for import into FM.

All the best.
