Hello all,

First, a background:

We have been using FileMaker Server 5.5 on Mac OS 10.2 for several years, connecting to our web server via a Windows XP machine running FileMaker Pro 5.5. The web server is running Lasso Professional 5, connecting to the databases via the web companion box.

We have recently begun a new project with a new set of servers. We have a Mac OS 10.3 server running FileMaker Server 7, which we would like to connect to another web server running Lasso 7. However, things appear to have changed. We had previously used the Web Companion feature in the FileMaker Pro 5.5 machine; in FileMaker 7, this option appears to have disappeared. I had previously been told that this feature was now "built in" to FM 7 and thus a plugin was no longer needed. However, we cannot connect to the companion server in any way. What configuration steps are necessary to make the data on the FileMaker 7 Server visible to the web server running Lasso 7? Thanks for any and all tips and advice.

We just installed the same configuration and had problems connecting through to our databases. Once it was because the usernames and passwords in site admin were wrong, the next because a Lasso file that was connected to the ImageMagick (X11) install got corrupted, and a third time simply because we had not added fmxml as an extended privilege to our database.

If you know connecting to the web companion is the problem, check the site admin host detail - it should have the ip addr for the web companion (which was probably installed on the web server machine, not the FMSA machine? - that is recommended for speed), and we use our database username and password. This always confuses me a little - it seems like it should be the username and password for the host machine there, rather than the master password for our filemaker databases - but this is what works for us.

Lasso installation support will know a lot more about this than me, but if you want to talk through any of this give me a call at (541)346-0731 Oregon time. Alas, I follow the list only irregularly. -Dan Smellow
