Newbies Mike Zwetsloot Posted August 1, 2005 Newbies Posted August 1, 2005 Hello, I have made a runtime solution with two fm databases in it. I want to update a USR file because i want to give new data to a customer. (I figured out the data change in this file) When i put the updated usr file in the runtime folder, overwrite it and then when i try to open the solution filemaker gives the message i could not find the usr file, when i point to it filemaker says the file is damaged. I dont want to send the whole runtime folder to a customer, its just easy to overwrite the old one. Does somebody know a solution for this?
SteveB Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 When you originally created the runtime you provided a unique key code called the Binding Key. You need to use that same binding key with your later version. Steve

JerrySalem Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 I don't think you can the binding key after the fact. But given your previous posts, I would bet that the binding key is in your solution is set to the default value '123456' (without the quotes) it is worth giving that a try. Jerry
SteveB Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 When using the Developer Tool, after you specify the files to include, there is a screen that has the Binding Key. Jerry is right, the binding key defaults to '123456'. You should change this to something else, and you should also change the file extension to something other than 'USR'. There is some probably that a user could have another application with the same extension, which will cause him problems. There is a web site that lists existing file extensions. Create one and submit it to the site so that it is unique (free process). Steve
Newbies Mike Zwetsloot Posted August 2, 2005 Author Newbies Posted August 2, 2005 I fixed it (with your guys help ofcourse) Developer 7 gives automaticaly the date and time as Binding key, now i changed both times the date and time into a value like 112233 and i can replace a updated usr file (wich stores the data of the application) without problems. Its handy when you want to send somebody a licence key or updated article file. Thanxx a lot for the help!!
