Is there a script or something that can launch a windows or executable program from the FM database?

Have you tried the "Send Event" script step. It will open external files.

A neat thing about calling an external file or application from a filemaker script is you can put a pause in the script right after the send event and this will pause your filemaker script until filemaker regains focus(filemaker becomes the active window again).

For this to work:

The Send Event option "bring target application to forground" must be selected.

The pause must be set to a Duration of 0 secs
