what is the easy way to get rid of the seconds in a timestamp field? Do I have to use a text field and calculate it?

I just turn them off in the layout.

Is this a v8 only?

I have v7, and making the change via the Time Field Format, the change doesn't show in Browse mode.

I don't see a separate one a TimeStamp format..

If it is possible, please list the steps in more detail.

My mistake, was thinking layout now browse...

The calculation:

  stamp - Mod(stamp,60)

where stamp is your timestamp and the calculation returns type timestamp will do it.

Any formatting you select for the time portion of a timestamp (in Layout mode, Format > Time..) will NOT be applied until you select SOME formatting for the date portion as well.

Thanks for pointing that out to us, and it seems logical when you think about it. Leaving one formatted as entered, and changing the other one would tend to confuse poor little FileMaker on what to do.
