October 26, 200520 yr I just attempted to jump into converting an 18 file solution to Filemaker 8. All the files converted and saved, however the linking of the passwords has been messed up. In FM6, you would open the main file with the master password and the script would open the remaining files with the master password. with the new files (and I did a batch convert), the account name / password seems to give major problems. I open the main file leaving account name blank and entering the Master password. The script then opens the remaining files, but most of them open with guest privleges so I cannot edit or access them at all. Any thoughts?
October 26, 200520 yr Hold down the "shift" key (in PC) but I see you are in Mac, I think it is the "option" key in Mac while opening the files. This will promt you to input the password.
October 26, 200520 yr Instead of leaving the account name blank, use Admin and see if that doesn't do it.
October 26, 200520 yr Author Thanks for the quick reply: Account name: Admin was no help The trouble is the master password, when opening the main file starts a script that opens all files with that password (at least it is supposed to). However the script is opening all files with guest privleges...
October 26, 200520 yr Not really sure why this is happening. Could it be that your File is opening the other files via their relationships instead of the startup scripts? BTW, have you downloaded the white paper about migrating files. Also, it has been recommended in the past that you should recreated anything more than a simple solution v7/8, rather than using the "Convert" method. There is a product called FM Robot that can also help with this process. Lee Edited October 26, 200520 yr by Guest
October 27, 200520 yr Mlindal, I had similiar problems despite using all the good advice given in here. The only way I found round it was to remove all (and I mean all) passwords from the solution before conversion. I cannot remember now what password I used in the conversion then. I presume it was either nothing or admin as that seems to be the general convention but I remember it was real easy to open then (whereas it was darned frustrating beforehand-GRRRR!) HTH Phil
October 27, 200520 yr However the script is opening all files with guest privleges... Sounds like those other files have the File Option set to automatically open using the guest account. Try turning that option off (you'll need to open those files one by one holding down the option key, so the password dialog comes up.) It's also important to note that passwords in FM7/8 are case sensitive, where in previous versions they were not. If your master password doesn't open those other files individually, you should check the case that was used in the FM6 file.
