DukeS Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 (edited) Hi! I am installing FM Server Advanced and i cannot get it to work on the web. I followed the manuals and on local network everything works perfectly. But when trying to see database from the web nothing shows up. I have router properly configured with all ports open (5003, 16008-16018). FM Server and Web Console can see each other, shared databases are shown (in configuration console) and everything is on one computer so IPs are localhost. When I open the database from FMPro with Instant web publishing and configured port is ok. Thanks in advance Dejan Edited November 25, 2005 by Guest
janedoe Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 Hi, Just to be sure... You mentioned IPs are localhost... from outside you are using the PC's actual IP address? Also, if the above is true, when you tested it with Pro, did you try accessing it from outside as well? You may want to try just pinging the IP address of the PC that is running FM Svr from outside to verify that the PC can be reached. Cheers, jd.
Wim Decorte Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 I have router properly configured with all ports open (5003, 16008-16018) For accessing the web part, you need to have port 80 opened and forwarded to your web server (IIS on Windows, Apache on Mac). If the FM Web Publishing engine is configured properly then the web server will pass on all requests to the WPE & FMS. Port 5003 is for direct connectivity to FMS from a FMP client. Ports 16008-16018 do not need to be open on the inbound router. Only if you have a router between the various pieces of FMSA.
DukeS Posted November 25, 2005 Author Posted November 25, 2005 Hi! Thanks for answers. From outside I'm using static ip address that I got from ISP and it is used by router for ADSL connection. Yes I tried to connect to FM Pro and It worked well. I have specified port in IWP and forward it through the router. So from outside I type 193.xx.xxx.xx:10000 and connection is established right away. About ports that is the part I don't understand. All three parts (Apache, FMS, FMSA) are installed on one computer and this computer have IP number 192.168.0.100. How do I forward port 80 to apache. Do I have to edit Apache httpd.conf file and set up some virtual server?
DukeS Posted November 27, 2005 Author Posted November 27, 2005 Ok, now it is working! i just forwarded port 80 through my router on server IP. One more question. Can I change default port 80? Or is there a reason to change it? I mean for security issues.
Wim Decorte Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Sure you can change the port. That is done in Apache (or IIS on Windows) not in FMSA. It's the web server that receives all requests and it knows where FMSA is, so FMSA doesn't care what port the web server is listening on. Keep in mind though that all your urls will need to included the port number to make the connection...
DukeS Posted November 28, 2005 Author Posted November 28, 2005 Thanks Wim, It all works now! I have added two lines in apache config file - httpd.conf: Listen 80 Listen 8888 (my choice of port number which is forwarded through the router on local IP)
