Portals - not display all records

I am a newbie to forums and relatively new to FM.

I seem to be suffering a recurring FM issue and need some advice.

I have a "people" database containing names and address info. Not surprisingly I have some records of people who have the same name, but obviously different addresses. My problem is, when I view the list of people via a pop-list in a portal in another database it only displays one occurence of an individuals name, even though there could be 2 or 3 people with the same name. How do I get around this this...? Each person has their own unique ID, but this seems to make little difference. My only solution so far is to differentiate names by adding a "." somewhere in the field. i.e.

Mark Jones

Mark.Jones

Mark Jones.

Am I missing something obvious?

Hi Michelle and welcome to the forum,

Although you state that each person has a unique id it would seem that you have based your relationship(the one for the value list that the pop-up uses) on the name rather than the unique ID. That is why you have the confusion when a name is duplicated.

I would create a new calculation field (text result)in the Person table which would be:-

Name & " : " & Company ( or address or something which differentiates your people)

and use this in your value list rather than just name.
