Have a portal show found records on a single record layout?

Featured Replies

I am not sure this can be done. I have tried setting up several different scenarios and relationships with no luck.

I would like to have a single field portal, showing contact name, running alongside my contact name layout so that I can click on the name in the portal and the correct record shows on the page as well. I know I have seen examples of this or something similar but I have not been able to find it. I saw a training video by MAtt Petrowsky that I thought would do it but it was a completely different application.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Al

I'm using FM6 to do this, but you can give it a try.

You would form a relationship that links to its self based on the contact name. Then create a portal that uses this relationship and insert the name field going through this relationship, like you would if you had linked 2 different files. Then turn that field into a button that when pressed shows only related files.

It should show each entry in the list on the side, then when pressed the fields outside of the portal should change to what you have selected.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion. I either get all the records in the database showing in the portal or just the record that is current. Setting the field to a button and then clicking on it does nothing. I have set the relationship to =,X, <> with no help. When I set it to X all records show. When set to = only one record shows.

My contact Name field is a calc so my related field shows a Number, therefore, I changed it to Last Name and still no help. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any suggestions/help.

What about creating an extra field called "include" in your relationship. Scripting the find, then performing a replace on the 'include' field with "Y"?

When you finished with the records you would have to then do a replace again with "" to clear the portal.

See Ray's demo how to create a portal to the found set.
