Export records with Tab Control

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a membership database where the layout is designed in such a way that only the relevant fields (information) are related to the member, on the same layout, I use Tab Control to manage information pertaining to family members in inclusing spouse's information etc. Now, when I export the database to Excel, all information on the main layout related to the member get exported correctly, as well as information on the tab control being displayed at the time of export, all information on the other tabs do not get exported. Any idea how I can export every information (information on the main layout, and all information on the tab controls) to an Excel file at once? Appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

Generate a new layout that has all required fields on it. Then in your export script, freeze the window and goto this layout prior to exporting.

Off Topic, Filemaker has confused me, is Goto one word or two?

In Filemaker, it's two words, ie, [color:red]Go to Related Record.

In DOS, it's one word [color:red]GoTo Label.

In the English language, it is two words. "[color:red]Go to the library."

So unless you're working at the DOS prompt, you're safe with two words. :wink2:

You don't need to place the fields on the layout at all. The layout doesn't determine which FIELDS are exported, it only determins the table occurrence. If you use Save/Send As then yes - it only 'exports' the layout fields. But when you perform a standard export, you have an option (see top of your export specification box) to export current layout OR current table (wonderful addition in vs. 8). If you select Current Table, you have access to all the fields.

Ah, rightio, didnt know that about 8, that saves me time and brings me happiness ;) Thanks LaRetta.

Go to, two words in FileMaker eh? ... So it is. Oh well, hehe my users are going to have tooltips that say Goto Next Record all over the database lol.

Thanks for that aswell LaRetta, seems your a jack of all trades.

Thanks a lot. I have yet to try out what you all have suggested. However, what if my database is designed in such a way that a table is defined with all relevant information about a member, and the spouse & children are in separate table and another table for other information about the member, all linked throug relationship, but these separate information appears in separate tabs? I hope you understand what I mean, in which case, can export be done the same way as you have suggested?

Thanks in advance.

You would have to go to a layout thats based on a Table Occurance that refers to your spouse and children table and then export those records seperatly.
