Newbies bureen Posted March 8, 2006 Newbies Posted March 8, 2006 -Hi, I'm a VB programmer. My new job drives me into the amazing world of FM Pro 6. The database is quite complete ( done by other people) and already set up for multiple users. I only have to customize and enhance the usability. But, I cannot go to the Layout mode because it was set up with a limited privilege. And certainly, I cannot change the privilege setting or any Admin configuration. All I can do is entering new data. Could someone please help me with this ? I really appreciate it. : : Ben.
Raybaudi Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 And certainly, I cannot change the privilege setting or any Admin configuration. All I can do is entering new data. Could someone please help me with this ? So, what type of help can we give you ? What's the question ?
Newbies bureen Posted March 8, 2006 Author Newbies Posted March 8, 2006 -- How do I open the database file and edit it? Because everytime I open it, it says "Opening... for multi-user..", and a bunch of tables display but I cannot got to Layout mode, or any Admin setting. As I said, all I can do is entering new data. My purpose is to customize the layout, edit script... which I can't now. Thanks for your help.
Lee Smith Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 If I'm understanding your situation correctly, you do [color:red]not have the [color:blue]Access Privileges to do any modifications other than to add [color:blue]data. If that is correct, there is nothing we can do to help, except to suggest that you request a higher Access Privilege from your Administrators. Lee
Lee Smith Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 That may not be totally accurate. The "company" may have several Accounts and Privilege levels. It doesn't necessarily require a Master Password to access the thing mentioned, only an account with the privileges needed by Ben. Lee
Newbies bureen Posted March 11, 2006 Author Newbies Posted March 11, 2006 --- Hi, the funny thing is I'm supposed to be the administrator. This is the work left by the previous FM programmer. I'm taking over his database. If there is a way to get through with the master password. How do I do that..?? My boss may be able to know the master somewhere. Many thanks to your help. I appreciate it. Have a nice weekend.!!
Lee Smith Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 There are three ways to solve your problem that I know of. 1). Have your company Demand that the former Administrator provide you with it. 2). Find a Password Cracker (there have been some mentioned in the past on the Forum. 3) Check and see if FMI still provides the service. They used to do this for like a $100.00, with proof of ownership. Newbies bureen Posted March 15, 2006 Author Newbies Posted March 15, 2006 --Uhmm, when I open it, it doesn't ask for a password or anything. It automatically loads up all the tables and says " Open... for multi-user..." And I can't even access the Account priviledge setting after this. And there's no way to contact the previous programmer. I guess we have to count on the FMI service. Any other solution..?? Many thanks.
kiwiora Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 --Uhmm, when I open it, it doesn't ask for a password or anything. It automatically loads up all the tables and says " Open... for multi-user..." Hold down your shift key when you open the file - you will then get the password dialog box.
Vaughan Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 Hold down the Option key on a Macintosh to prompt for password.
