iNovice Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 OK, here's the deal. Time is of the essence and I need a crash course on getting all learned up on this Filemaker stuff. I need to move from novice to semi-pro in the shortest period of time. Obviously I'm looking for the best FM resource that can make the complex look easy, and at a reasonable cost. Online training with peronal consultation support if I got stumped would be ideal, but I realize I probably can't have my cake and eat it too. Any (I will not be disappointed) suggestions? Also, since most of what I'm trying to develop would be web published, an emphasis in that area would be most helpful. Thanks!
Genx Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 The development of web published is pretty much the same as the standard, however when writing scripts turn on "show web compatibility", this will grey out all the web incompatible script steps. As for your resource, I always recommend Lynda.com stuff - with a few additional references. Point is, everything seems complicated at first, but if you watch the videos i can guarantee you that you'll be having ooooh and ahhh moments through out the next week... but then again it also depends on your learning style so i can't guarrantee you won't be dissapointed. But i found "The Missing Manual" and Lynda.com and finally FM Mag to be really useful when i was starting out - FM Mag is really cheap too, only 25USD for 3 months or something - great number of sample files. The only way to learn is to pull things apart aswell - or build your own, but seeing as you don't have time... Have a look at the free umm... Business Tracker? I forget what it's called someone will point you toward it.
