Keeping Far Left Column While Scrolling Right

Is there a way for the columnar (list) view to behave like Excel where you can keep the left most column...say, a persons name...as you scroll sideways right to bring out-of-view columns in to view. So you can keep the name visible on the far left as you search across to info in various fields. Can this be done in Browse and/or Table view?

Thanks all in advance,

Michael

Hi, Gromit!

One of ways is to create muliple layouts for your goal, if it is very necessary.

In the first layout you will have Name,F1,F2,F3,F4 fields.

In second Name,F2,F3,F4,F5

In third Name,F3,f4,F5.

And ...........

Other way i think is using Getfield() function but i dont tried it.

I will be glad to know about other ways.

I am not that familiar with FM8 yet, but I remember seeing (when version 7 was introduced) the Filemaker example of the moving windows. They created a file that held pictures of employees and made it as if they were racing to get to the finish. All of the picture I think were in their own window (=layout), and they moved across the screen in intervals. Could you use that technique to have one layout with just the one column on it, and a bigger scrollable layout to show the others? If they were based on the same TO, would this be possible? I guess in MAC it would be. In Windows, the resizing of windows in a fixed position cannot be done as nicely.
