Hello!

So... I've got a product sheet that contains 8 sliding repeating fields (of maximum 10). As you can probably guess, this takes up multiple pages.

I'm sure I'm not the first one to ask this (I did look), but is there a way to stop the fields from crossing pages and starting on the next page?

I've fooled around with subsummaries, but I don't like the way they work, as on some occasions, these fields only contain one repetition.

Thanks in advance,

M

I'm assuming you mean "i don't want a record splitting between pages so each record is whole and complete on it's page"

Each layout part can be specifically set to "Allow part to break across page boundaries" - just set this option to "off".

Thanks for the quick responses,

So are you saying I should have 8 different layout parts (sub-summaries I guess?), one for each repeating field, with that option turned off?

Thanks,

M

You should replace the repeating fields with a relational design. This will solve problems you don't yet even know you have.

I realize repeating fields are likely to be hideous, but I use them on this because it's the only way I see fit for the user to be able to enter all data from one main page.

I don't want to have the users to need to understand relational databases in order to enter data in the end. If there's a more elegant solution, I'd be more than contented to find out, as I am decidedly hesitant about repeating fields.

Here is an example of what I mean.

The Spec and C of A are the only thing the user should need to use in order to fill out completely. I realize this example may have other problems as well, but I'm not capable of posting my actual data.

Thanks a lot either way!

Hello Everybody!

Alright, I've finally been convinced that repeating fields are an evil spawn when it comes to storing data (it really shouldn't have taken this long, my apologies).

I now have 8 sliding portals, all of size 1-10. Is there a way I can use page breaks to display them so they don't cross page borders?

I've tried subsummaries, but it seems when I preview them (this document should be printable), that I only get the bottom end of it.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

M

Edit:

Here's a fun sample file

... Why are you printing portals? Why don't you try just using the fields directly and producing a report?

Thanks for the quick response!

I'm printing portals most likely due to my recent introduction to this program.

Is there a way I can print them it all and keep it sliding? I may be lacking knowledge on the report you're referring to. If so, could you expand on it?

All I need as an end result is a printable layout where no set of data crosses page boundaries.

BTW, good run at the Cup, Australian football's really picking up the pace. Now if only they could get those ashes back...

:) Dodgey call by the ref in the italian game but oh well.

Anyway, to the question at hand... Printable layout? Reports tend to be summaries of databases rather than singular layouts. If you're just trying to print a layout for the sake of allowing the user to print a layout then... print your layout, otherwise use a report - basically a sorted, summarized list view of your records.

Just expand a bit on what you're trying to do and why your trying to do it, then we'll have a go at what you should be doing.

Yeah, the refs have made a few blunders in favour of Aussie opponents (3 yellow cards?)

Alright, I'm trying to sort out reports, but it really just keeps on evading me. I'll post my database so far. Information is entered into Data Entry (surprise :) ) and then is displayed on both Spec and C of A. Both of these currently contain portals but need to print properly (no categories breaking across pages, information aligned correctly).

I've gotten some help previously, but my mind couldn't quite wrap around the explanation. I feel like I'm halfway to understanding what I'm supposed to be doing but won't really know until I'm there.

Cheers,

Michael

Okay, two things a) I'm slightly confused as to what it is your wanting to print

:) i forgot about this post sorry 1) If you are trying to print layout C of A, you might try using sliding

c) If that doesn't work, you'll have to do some fun looping in circles (i.e. collecting the data into individual global fields and then performing slides on them and

2) Still reallllly confused, just clarify a bit.

and d) did you ever think of maybe revising the layout a bit so it could fit into a standard report format or is this a format you've been given?

Sorry, i can never fit into numbers very well :P
