rome33 Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 HI I want to print a page and all the text in a field but sometimes there is more text in the field than shows when you print it. Is there anyway to print the remaining text from certain fields on another page? thanks!
Orlando Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Hi there rome33 All you need to do is set the sliding and printing for this field. First off; extend the field so it is two or three pages long, a bit longer than you thing the text will be. Now highlight the field and from the menu along the top select Format - Set Sliding/Printing. A dialog box will appear and you will need to check the following options to on: 'Sliding up based on' and 'Also reduce the size of enclosing part' Now click OK and the field will minimise to the length of the text within it, and by selecting 'enclosing part' the body of the layout will also reduce along with it. now when you go into Preview mode you will see it has reduced. I hope I have explained this well enough. Regards Orlando
Jdawg Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Orlando, along with setting the sliding printing, have you ever tried validating the field with a calculation in a way that would restrict users from typing text that would go outside the bounds of the desired field size? I've tried validating by number of characters, but Filemaker doesn't count hard returns in the character count. I'd like to restrict my users to a certain printable area. Is this possible?
rome33 Posted June 30, 2006 Author Posted June 30, 2006 I tried sliding but I don't think it works with instant web publishing. The best thing would be if that text box could continue on the next page if there is more to be added. Does filemaker allow text box links like in Indesign or something?
