AyCaramba Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Hi all.. I'm having a big problem developing a "Fast letter create" solution. My goal is to get it done by a layout which is divided in several parts like salutation, content, closing and finalisation of the letter, where the user can click a selection-field and select a pre-defined value. So far, so easy. But now the problem consists in the fact that this Value-List must be influed by several parameters; language, topic etc. (e.g. Only values on the right language, amd of the right topic must be displayed). How shall I realise that? I thougt about some kind of Value-list filtering, but have no idea how to do this. Please help me with that, it's very important
Razumovsky Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Welcome AyCaramba, Try a search for "Conditional Value Lists" on the forum. This is what you need, and there is a lot of information on the forum about it. -Raz
AyCaramba Posted June 28, 2006 Author Posted June 28, 2006 hmm i've been all day trying all different ways with contitional Valuelists, and I'm really desperate, because it's just too much parameters. ain't there another way?
Razumovsky Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 So, if I understand you correctly, you are asking how you filter a value list by many parameters without using many parameters?
AyCaramba Posted June 28, 2006 Author Posted June 28, 2006 :) sounds fun.. no of course not. Ok, so let me ask on a diferent way. How can I set so many conditions to the contitional Valuelist?
Razumovsky Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Don't worry, it is not such a big deal once you get your parameters sorted out. Check out this thread Here First one that popped up, and seems to do the trick. I think there is a more detailed sample file in the sample file or tips section, but it really is just the same principle regardles of the complexity involved.
John Mark Osborne Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Try downloading my DevCon 2005 presentation. It has an example of how to create custom form letters. It may be more than what you want but I thought I would offer. http://www.filemakerpros.com/DevCon05.zip Look for en example called FORM.FP7.
AyCaramba Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 uuh that's exactly what I need, thank you 1000 times. Can I use this example and rebuild some parts of it for my own use?
Genx Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Speaking for John, the answer is most likely yes seeing as he posted it . Also, what you should have been searching for was +conditional +valuelist.
AyCaramba Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 Okay.. thank you lots... I think I got my solution Thanks guys
