Lee Brock Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 I have a field consisting of two check boxes for the two choices in the value list. I have the field validation set up for "not empty" but how do I allow only one of he checkboxes to be selected? Thank you.
LaRetta Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 Hi Lee, Consider using radio buttons instead. That is their purpose - to allow only one or the other to be selected. LaRetta :wink2:
comment Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I agree. But just for fun... SingleCheckBox.fp7.zip
LaRetta Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 (edited) Does this require 8.5? I'm getting unknown script-steps and function missing in tickbox_All calc. Oops yes ... tickbox_All parameter, object name. I guess it's time to upgrade. : Edited September 12, 2006 by Guest
LaRetta Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Double ooops ... I had unzipped dynamicTickbox (which is certainly 8.5) instead of single checkbox! Too much on my desktop today to play with ...
Kent Searight Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 (edited) Nicely done. A nice advantage of Michael's solution over using a radio button set is that its behavior can't be overridden with a shift-click, as is the case with radio buttons. The only minor pitfall I can see is a potential to cause confusion with experienced FileMaker end-users that expect the checkbox set to behave normally, i.e. able to make multiple selections. But that could be addressed with a little ingenuity in the user interface design. Edited September 12, 2006 by Guest
comment Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Hmmm... I really did it just for fun. But if you do need a radio button that can't be overridden with a shift-click, just change the field's format to radio - it will work the same way. In fact, even if the field is formatted as an edit-box, it will still keep only the last (bottom) value.

But if you do need a radio button that can't be overridden with a shift-click, just change the field's format to radio - it will work the same way. Good point.
