Alisun Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Hello, This is a basic question, but I've forgotten the answer! I have a database that is one table, with a large number of defined fields. I want to add the table into another Filemaker database. How do I import a table? Alisun
mr_vodka Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Under File --> Import Records --> File --> Change the file type to whatever --> Match the import fields --> It si already defaulted to Add new records
Alisun Posted November 6, 2006 Author Posted November 6, 2006 The problem is that the new table does not have any matching fields. It is a table with unrelated data, that will have it's own layout. Is there a way to import a table without matching fields?
Ender Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Use the "New Table" option in the Target menu on the upper right of the Import dialog.
Stuart Taylor Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 How long has new table been there for... no more typing field names yey!
Ender Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 It was a new feature in FM8. FM8 Advanced and FM8.5 Advanced also sport the ability to Copy and Paste fields within the Define Database Fields listing, and to Copy and Paste whole tables within the Define Database Table listing. These come in handly if you're rearranging the structure or consolidating files.
Stuart Taylor Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 This is great for me as i want to create a couple of bridging/reformatting databases and being able to create a table with all of the correct field names in Entourage/Outlook/ICal/Digi camera image Fields... is gonna save me hours
Alisun Posted November 7, 2006 Author Posted November 7, 2006 (edited) Excellent, thanks for all your help. It's also good to know that FM8.5 has the ability to copy and paste fields within Define Database. That would be a big time saver. I plan to upgrade eventually. Thanks again!
