excell and unique IDs

Featured Replies

Hello, i imported all my clients from a excell file each was given an automatic customer ID there was 350 of them, i have now culled around 300 of them but obviously they now have ID 127, ID348, ID32 ... etc

i would like to change all these to 1,2,3,4,5,6, etc how would i go about doing this.

thankyou

Hi Robert,

Assuming you have no related records yet which depend upon these IDs, you can establish an auto-enter on it assigning by serial (field definition Options). Don't worry about setting this number; you'll do that when you researlize. It sounds like you've already done this step.

To reserialize, go to a layout which displays this ID. Be sure to Show All Records. Place your cursor in the ID field (on any record) and select Records > Replace Field Contents and select 'Replace with Serial Numbers.' Be SURE to click checkbox 'Update Serial in Auto-Entry' and, once it serializes your records, it will set for the next number. :wink2:

Thanks but when i click in this customer Id field (auto enter seriel number) and go to records the item is "greyed out" so i cannot select it, so i went into layout mode and format field behavior and allowed the field to be entered in browse mode but it is still greyed out.

the field i am trying to renumber is a

indexed, auto enter serial, cant modify auto field.

:)

you can change the field options to allow modification

or

Set the field via a script
