I have just recently a problem to export the contents of the fields in a record with the format that being in the layout. When the text is in UPPERCASE and I am sure that the option have been selected, shows in excell all the fields in lowercase. How can I fix this problem?

If the field was formatted to be UPPERCASE in the layout mode, it doesn't effect the actual text if it was typed in as lower case.

You can check this real fast by coping one of the fields and pasting it into a text editor, or a text field that is not formatted to be Uppercase.

I test it and you are right. Thank you.

But I think that this weakens the ability of FM to format text. What the use for if we cannot export it as UPPERCASE anyway if we select the appropriate option? I am going to leave all the fields in LOWERCASE in order the costumer use UPPERCASE if he or she wants it.

Us an Auto Enter Caluculation on the Field with the Specfy calculation of Upper(YourTextField).

That way if it is entered as lower case, it will revert it.

Hi Pascal,

500 fields seems a bit much (both in having to change them and just that they exist), although you may have reasons for so many fields. Most external programs easily convert text to uppercase; either convering the data itself or simply for display. You haven't indicated the purpose of your request (or I missed it). Uppercase is very old-fashioned and is difficult to read. And if any of your data are names and many streets, converting to uppercase has now lost the case-sensitivity of them. It will be difficult to recapture properly.

I feel data should be User controlled ( on free-text fields ). Nothing is more frustrating than to type something which is RIGHT and have a darned computer change it to something it wasn't. We get this 'interference' all the time - Word tries to make a List if we type a number and parenth within a letter etc. I dislike developers attempting to take control (and responsibility) from Users.

ABC Corp becomes ABC CORP then later when Proper is needed for professional letter - [color:green]Abc Corp

vanBuren becomes VANBUREN and then Vanburen

LaRetta becomes LARETTA and then Laretta <------ added for fun (smile)

It may LOOK okay but that's not the proper spellings and names and companies are important!! I hope you don't have any French in your schools. I even laugh when I get mail and a street is misinterpreted by some computer - it looks dorky. These text-manipulation functions are in our toolbox to CORRECT these abnormalities and not to create them. Just my opinion ... I'm glad you're back on track. But I thought you should know that you may be opening cans of worms which have not-yet-hatched.
