January 15, 200718 yr Can someone explain the difference between ## and Status(CurrentPageNumber) I figured they'd return the same value but I've been testing things with both and they've been returning different values.
January 16, 200718 yr Author Well yes. I understand that. lol I'm just trying to figure out why they return different values as I thought ## was a short form for Status(CurrentPageNumber).
January 17, 200718 yr Author by Get are you referring to GetField(field) or to the calculation Status(CurrentPageNumber)? Cause the Status(CurrentPageNumber) isn't stored and I've tried just putting it on the layout and it returns different then ## *shrug*
January 17, 200718 yr I meant Status functions needs to be Unstored. I was referring to Status(CurrentPageNumber) Function of course. BTW, it only show in Print and Preview Mode. Sorry for the confusion. Lee
January 18, 200718 yr Author yes... are you able to make it show the same or are you just assuming? Cause as far as I can tell, what you've stated is what I have tested and it's coming up differently. *shrug* I'm baffled
January 18, 200718 yr ASS U ME - Right. I assume you haven't read the Help, is what I assume. From the Online Help v 8.5: Get(PageNumber) = A number representing the current page being printed or previewed. Page Number Symbol = A page number. (Page numbers only appear in Preview mode or on a printed report.) Two number symbols (##) I keep forgetting you are using v5, so from the v 5 help Status (CurrentPageNumber) function Description = Returns a number representing the current page being printed or previewed. If nothing is being printed or previewed, 0 is returned. Insert A page number. (Page numbers only appear in Preview mode or on a printed report.) = Page Number Symbol = Two number symbols (##) Lee
January 19, 200718 yr Author I know what it is Lee LOL what I had done was placed both on a layout ## beside a calculation field Status(CurrentPageNumber) For some reason they were showing different values. I've since made them show the same value and stuff but I was trying to figure out why they would show different values considering they were on the same page in preview. *shrug* I'm not even sure how I originally corrected it to be honest. I just know I was moving things and changing things and poof... it worked! I was just curious is all :)
January 19, 200718 yr Author ok I've found where I made the correction and have duplicated my problem. In my header if I have ## and Status(CurrentPageNumber), they are the same In my body if I put ## and Status(CurrentPageNumber), they are different. The ## matches the header but the Status(CurrentPageNumber) in the body seems to count up including every page in preview mode. Hopefully now you can figure out what the heck I'm referring to :)
January 19, 200718 yr Author Scratch that... I've since changed things somewhere and tried to show someone and now all the ## are the same and all the Status(CurrentPageNumber) are the same but they don't equal each other. The more I look into it, the more curious I am to find out why LOL
January 20, 200718 yr Post a file ... this is nonesense. My tests do not return these results. This only happens if you preview as a PDF (pdf is all 1 page) Prove me wrong.
January 20, 200718 yr Open Parent. Accidently placing a related field on a main layout isn't unusual. The error is indeed strange but not impossible. UPDATE: If this file is first converted to vs. 8.0v3, it no longer works (the calcs display the same results). When opening in 6.0v3 or converting to 7.0v3, the results show different values in the calcs. I don't have vs. 5 to test. LaRetta StatusPage.zip Edited January 20, 200718 yr by Guest Added Update
January 24, 200718 yr Author Ok here's a small file to show what I was referring to. I was going to make a layout where things matched and such but that seemed like too much work LOL Let me know what you think. page_number_test.zip
