Auto extending portal entries?

I am still very new to FM - but very keen...

Once again apologies if this is not a good question or indeed in the wrong forum...

Is there a way to place a text field onto a portal and set the portal rows (or maybe the format the text field) so that it automatically expands to show all of the contents of the text field - ie varying heights.

The ability for fields sizes to self-expand is not possible in FileMaker.

Come to think about it though - for things like invoice layouts where a description could be one line or many lines I assume you still can't have expanding fields.

Maybe I should use a Crystal layout linked by ODBC to the FM database - can you call an external app from within FM and pass parameters?
