Creating a related recored without using a portal

Hi all,

In the past I have just used portals to create related records, but for this project that just won't work.

I guess I would need to attach a script to a button to either switch to the related table or open a new window with the related table and create a new recored, but I don't have any idea how to automatically get the match field serial number from the parent into the new record.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

you can use a scripted button and just do something like this:

Set Variable [$parentkey ; keyfield]

Go to layout ["relatedtable" (related table)]

Set field [parentforeignkey ; $parentkey]

Commit Record

...or you can pass the key to the button as a script parameter and :

Go to layout ["relatedtable" (related table)]

Set field [parentforeignkey ; Get(ScriptParameter)]
