Mark Round Posted April 2, 2002 Posted April 2, 2002 Hi all, I'm experiencing a problem with the FM unlimited web connector, and I'd appreciate any help! We're using FM Unlimited 5.5, which is opening databases hosted by FM Server 5 (both on NT). We also have a Linux machine with Apache, with the web connector installed. I'm assuming the connector installed OK on the Linux machine, as I can log in, set preferences, add hosts and databases, etc. When I test custom CDML pages on the unlimited machine, through FileMaker's built-in web server, they work fine. However, when I upload these pages to the Linux machine, whenever I submit a FMPro request, whether through a form, or on the URL line, I get the following message - quote: "Unexpected error: Unable to process your request because the server encountered an unexpected condition. For more information on error code 3, refer to FileMaker help... etc... etc...." FileMaker help says error code 3 is : quote: "Command is unavailable (for example, wrong operating system, wrong mode, etc.)" As stated before, the database is open, has the web publishing enabled in "sharing", and works locally via FM's own web server. It's just when I try to use the connector that I get this error. Aside from this, the connector appears to be working OK - no errors in the logs, and it can see the Unlimited host OK. Any help would be VERY much appreciated, as this is obviously a major stumbling block. I tried FM tech support, and they knew nothing about the connector whatsoever, and even said that they couldn't support it! -Mark
IdealData Posted April 2, 2002 Posted April 2, 2002 As far as I know the only FM product that runs on Linux is FM Server. FMP 5.x unlimited is a client based operation, and the WSC is part of the client, consequently limited to the same op. sys.

The way they recommend you use it is to set up an array of Unlimited clients (which can only run on Windows or Mac), and then use the WSC under Linux to connect an Apache server (so you can use SSL, etc.) to the Unlimited clients. It says this in the documentation, and is also mentioned on the back of the 5.5 Unlimited box. -Mark
Anatoli Posted April 2, 2002 Posted April 2, 2002 My bet will be on the HTML files placement at server. Or on Linux version -- which flavour is your Linux? I believe FM likes only Red Hat. I cannot comment this more, because I have only Unlim. v. 5 and there is nothing about Linux at all.
Mark Round Posted April 3, 2002 Author Posted April 3, 2002 OK - I got it working. I'm not sure exactly what was wrong, but I rebuilt the servers from scratch. I first installed NT, and FM Unlimited 5, which I then upgraded to Unlimited 5.5. On the other machine, I then did a clean install of Linux (Mandrake 8.2), and installed the web connector. Bingo! I am still at a loss as to what was wrong - the original setup that was causing the problems was identical to this. I usually try to steer clear of the "reinstall everything" approach to problem-solving, but in desperation tried it, and now everything's OK If I find out what the cause of the problem is, I'll let you know. Many thanks again for the replies! -Mark
