Dutchy Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 I have a separate table for clients and projects. made a portal to incorporate just the name and address of the client into the project layout. Problem is that I have hundreds of clients of which some have extremely long names. I would like to keep the full name to be seen in the field but making a search easier by means of a [color:red]search key? For example: the search key being the abbreviation of the company name. I have made a separate field in the client table with the abbreviations of the companies if they have any. Can I create a search key, or something similar to make the search for a client easier? I hope my description of the problem is not too vague?? Thanks, Dutchy
Inky Phil Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 HI Dutchy Why not just nominate your customer name field to be a value list based on all your customer names then use the type-ahead option to filter the list down? Phil
Dutchy Posted March 13, 2007 Author Posted March 13, 2007 Hi Phil, I have already done that but that doesn't really work for me. This mainly because we do business with companies that have the same name only stationed in different countries. For example company A in United States, Tanzania, Indonesia etc. This means we would have to type at least the whole company name (which could be very long) and the start to type country. Only then the type-ahead will start to work. By using the abbreviation + US, T or I the type-ahead option will work better, without having to scroll down the whole list. This is the main reason for wanting to implement a search key. If you have any other suggestions to do this they would be more then welcome. Dutchy
Inky Phil Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Ok then Why not choose the country that you want to deal with first. If you create a self relate based on this field you can then have the value list for your company name only show those companies that you do business with in that country. Would that do it for you? If so I can set up a small dem file for you. Phil
Dutchy Posted March 14, 2007 Author Posted March 14, 2007 (edited) That might work, didn't think of that. So yes could you set up a small dem. Dutchy Edited March 14, 2007 by Guest
Inky Phil Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Hi Dutchy. See if this helps a little. Get back to me if you want any further help Phil Dutchys_sample.zip
Dutchy Posted March 14, 2007 Author Posted March 14, 2007 Hi Phil, This is not really making it easier, sorry. This has nothing to do with your efforts but with my inability to explain the problem (in English). I will try to be a bit more specific in explaining the problem (maybe show you what I mean in an attachment). Will get back to you a.s.a.p. Dutchy
