KnoxIan Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 Would it be a bad idea to defragment a Windows Server 2003 drive while FM Server is actively running on it?
KnoxIan Posted April 5, 2007 Author Posted April 5, 2007 I thought perhaps it might be. Is there a way to automate the File Maintenance functions on hosted databases?
gdurniak Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 FileMaker Server works thru the commmand line, so you could get fancy & schedule Batch Files to automate the shutting of databases for "maintenance" But, I've never seen a dramatic performance gain from compacting, or defragmenting. It might not be worth it and yes, a common feature request is that server might one day allow you to schedule filemaker's various utilities greg
KnoxIan Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 Thanks. I'll just shut 'em down manually and defrag once a month or so.
DykstrL Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 We use Diskeeper on our FM servers on WS 2003 and it works fine - no problems. Just set it to run when the machine is idle.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Be sure to stop the FileMaker Server service before doing this. Steven
El_Pablo Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Do you know where I can get the list of the available commands for FMS 8? Thank you
Steven H. Blackwell Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Do you know where I can get the list of the available commands for FMS 8? IIRC, they are in the Server Admin Guide that comes with the product. There are a few OS level ones beyond that. Steven
