comment Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I am not aware of any problems/changes. It pays to be a little more specific when asking a question.
Vaughan Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Don't use drop-down lists or pop-up menus to make multiple selections. Though it is possible to do so in FileMaker, it's an inappropriate use of the interface widget. Use checkboxes for multiple selections. (BTW FMP even allows multiple selection of radio buttons, which IMHO is crazy.)
xtrim Posted May 2, 2007 Author Posted May 2, 2007 But I have thousands of items in my list... So it would not be a pretty sight a thousand checkboxes...
Ender Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Try using a portal (or a pair of portals--one for the source and one for the selected items).
comment Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Or a list view, with a button for selecting/deselecting.
xtrim Posted May 3, 2007 Author Posted May 3, 2007 A nice idea...but then the auto-complete will not work... Compromises, Compromises, Compromises... Thats what its all about ???
Ender Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Huh? Who said anything about "auto-complete". And what's the problem? If you've got a hitch in your giddy-up, you'd better speak up. Grumbling about it won't solve it. Seems to me the only issue is how to build the interface. I'd submit that if it's important to have multiple selections, then the structure should be designed (and normalized) to accommodate it. This may leave a few interface challenges, but that's why they pay us the big bucks.
