Learner1 Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Hi, I'm not sure if I am posting in the right place but I'm very new in the form so forgive me if I do a mistake. Tha database I'm planning is a relational database and I would like to create a form to enter that data in different tables for creation and updates. Is it possible to have this with filemaker 8.5?
Fitch Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Yes. Each layout is based on a particular Table Occurrence (TO), but the layout can also contain fields from related TOs.
Learner1 Posted July 10, 2007 Author Posted July 10, 2007 I need to create a kind of a user interface so that the secretary can enter the information without having to know anything about the design of the tables. The information entered through the interface (or the form) will be stored in related or unrelated tables. Is it possible to have this option with file maker? Thanks in advance.
Learner1 Posted July 17, 2007 Author Posted July 17, 2007 Hi again, I am trying to create my form. I have inserted fields from related tables but I can only create records for the fields of the original table.I can't access the fields from the realted fields when I click on them and when I use the tab key it skips them. Does any one have an idea about what could cause this problem? thanks
Inky Phil Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Have a look at the behaviour settings of those fields that you cannot enter (right click>field behaviour). It may be that they are set not to allow entry. With regards creating related records try checking the 'allow creation of records via this relationship' on the child side of the relationship. You will then be able to display the related fields within a portal and that portal will have a blank row at the bottom where related records can be entered HTH Phil

Ok, I just got it. I had to click the = sign in the link (in the ER diagram) and then check it : Thanks again Edited July 17, 2007 by Guest
