Greg Hains Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Hi I am having trouble getting serial numbers to work correctly. As per Help and two manuals, I follow the procedure of having a serial number created upon Commit, and when I create a new record the new serial number is created, but if I back out of that record without Committing, the serial number stays incremented. The only non-vanilla thing I am doing is inserting text into fields in that record first - might that be committing it in some way? Greg
Søren Dyhr Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Yes if you click outside the field, and there are always a danger a user might do so! --sd
Greg Hains Posted July 10, 2007 Author Posted July 10, 2007 Hi Soren. I have checked this several times but still it increments before I commit. I go to the new record layout, NewRecord and then nothing more, yet still the number increments. Aside from changing/selecting fields, what else counts as a Commit? Greg
Slobey Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 If you delete the first record before you create the new one, it will not incriment. But if you click new record, I believe it automatically commits the old one before creating a new one
Greg Hains Posted July 10, 2007 Author Posted July 10, 2007 Hi. I dont understand. If I have 300 existing and data-filled records and then in a single command then create a new one, why would I want to delete a perfectly good record first? Please explain. Greg
comment Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 I think you should explain how do you "back out of that record without Committing". Is your layout set up to save record changes automatically?
