Sorting Portals

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a join portal where the majority of the fields are not in the table that the portal is searching from. That is the portal is connected to table join, and there is a field from the join table for company id; however, every other field in the portal is from the company portal.

I would like the portal to sort by a field in the company table. How can I do this? When I choose the sort option, the only choices I have are from the join table.

Thanks a lot for the help.

this is a work around, cause FM UI for sorting portals doesn't allow you to choose other table occurrence.

All you need to do is change the portal to the relationship you wish, then edit the sort order, rinse and repeat if you have multiple relationships. Then just reassign the portal to your intended TO.

your sort order will have the TABLEOCCURANCE::FIELD for each item in the sort order, except for any fields that you directly sort on via the current relationship.

one note is if your portal can have a LOT of related records your sort time could increase possibly present the "sorting progress" dialog.

Great tip - didn't know this one. Thanks, Stephen.

The same procedure works too for the sort order on the Table Occurrence on the graph
