Mark H. Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 After many, many years away from FileMaker... I'd like to launch a script that is triggered by a field's validation (i.e. the user TABs out of the field)...but the clostest option I see...might be using a custom funtion to somehow run a script(?) In other words, when the user TABs-out of this field, I want a script to launch, and I'd like to know the best method in which to implement this. TIA Mark H.
Lee Smith Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 This topic comes from time to time. Do a search of the Forum for +Exit +Field +Script or +Script +Activation +Field +Exit. Use the plus as shown for the best result of narrowing down the search. Lee
Vaughan Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Without doubt you'll need a plug-in to do this. An auto-enter function activates the script on field exit.
Mark H. Posted August 4, 2007 Author Posted August 4, 2007 Many thanks, Lee and Vaughn. Looks like there's definitely some good pug-ins available for this. I agree with a lot of comments that I've read on similar threads -- basic script-firing events like this should be included in the standard product. That, and adding an option to enable cascading updates between related fields in separate tables. But, I have very few "complaints"...FMP has evolved into the best all-around database software that I have ever used.
