Expandable Fields / Layouts sliding down

Hello all,

I am looking to expand certain text fields, more than simply sliding up the empty spaces. Is there a function that will slide down other fields in a layout if a field goes beyond the allocated space.

What I'm hoping to do is allow someone to submit a Fault Report with as much detail as they would like to add, and do not want to limit the amount of text they input in a field due to obvious details needed in a fault report. Currently the scroll bars allow for input and storage electronically, but I'd like to print the reports for insurance records and cannot figure out a way to allow the entire field to be printed if the details go beyond the field limitation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go into Layout mode and use the Sliding/Printing options on the fields that you want to automatically adjust.

In addition, use a List layout and not a form layout (like it sounds like you might be using). Be sure to also set the body part to slide as well.

Thank you all very much for your prompt and excellent responses, but maybe I'm missing something.

I'm selecting my field that I would like to expand when the text goes beyond the field measurement. And once selected, I go to Format -->Set Sliding / Printing. But no matter what parameters I select once the inputed text goes beyond the field rectangle, it disappears.

I have no problem sliding these fields up when there is no data filling the field, but I really would like them to expand and push the rest of the layout down... so that if there is loads of detail the layout will expand to 2 or 3 pages.

Does version 8 allow this type of option? Or must I upgrade to a more recent version?

Thanks,

Marv

The field itself can not dynamically resize itself with the amount of text that you enter in browse mode. The suggested methods were mostly for printing. You could make your field larger and then have it slide up during printing/preview.

If you want to enter in lots of info into a field, try turning scrolling on for the field or change your interface.

In FM9, the resizing of the object on the layout will allow certain fields or object to shrink and grow depending on the window size.

Yeah I forgot to mention that you have to expand your field on your print layout so that it will contain all possible content. Like Mr Vodka says: the sliding printing will shrink it down when you go to preview or print.
