grumbachr Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 maybe this is the wrong place to post this but I'm having an issues with some value list no longer working and some just disappear completely. One day they are there and working fine the next it not. When I go into view the values lists the space for the missing one is there but the row is empty. Its has not been deleted its as if it gone bad. Any one experience anything similar? As I'm the only one with Full access to the db I know it can't be something others are doing it just odd.
FestiveEmbalmer Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 you mean the value list appears in the value list menu but the actual values are missing? just a random guess, but could the value lists in question be tied to a field on a table with records that are deletion prone?
grumbachr Posted October 11, 2007 Author Posted October 11, 2007 no they are stand alone. let me post an image of the issues. I knew I should have done this earlier. you will see two value lists have have no title or values they are just empty rows.
FestiveEmbalmer Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 in all my months of filemaker experience i have not seen its like... Corrupted? Hope one of the gurus can help you. sorry.
FileMaker Magazine Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 You are not alone on this. I too have all of a sudden experienced some type of corruption. My file is hosted on a Win XP FMSA9 and the file history was that it was created in 8.5 and Saved as Compressed before moving to 9. I do develop directly on the server while the file is hosted but it's not being heavily used (there are only a few people who access it randomly) This is not a good feeling, I assure you. I'm wondering if there's an issue when the file is being worked on and you submit a database catalog change (save a script, field or table definition) when a scheduled backup is being run at the same time. Here's a picture of my Custom Functions dialog box. ;)
Genx Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 (edited) Yeh, I've had it in my CF's as well. Though I don't think it had anything to do with a backup running at the same time as i was working on a local copy at the time. Odly the CF's themselves continued to work - though i replaced them with modified versions just in case. The most annoying thing is that you can't delete these things. LaRetta Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I've had it happen as well. Every time a file has corrupted for me, I look at my CFs. Several are also blank (as displayed here). CFs appear to be more sensitive and are (usually) the first sign of corruption. So I now use them as my canary in the coal mine (just the first thing I look for if I suspect). I then confirm further using logs or other behaviors but, so far, it's been spot on.
Genx Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 In truth, this was a CF which I pulled from a different file, but the moment it was added to a completely blank file, I had this "corruption" effect. There was nothing odd about this particular CF, except maybe its reliance on localized variables. It just seems odd to me that it wouldn't be corrupt in the original developed file, yet would be in an entirely new file.
grumbachr Posted November 1, 2007 Author Posted November 1, 2007 Has anyone gotten any input from FileMaker on this issue? I tried calling their techsupport once but after 30 minutes on hold I had to hang up and go to a meeting. I see some of you are members of TechNet, have they posted anything about it? Thanks this is really starting to become more than annoying. As I've found no relationship between what I'm doing and to when this happens. I know its not caused by the backup because that only runs at 5am and I'm never working at that time. I'm sort of glad that I'm not the only one with this problem so it not just a bug on my end but a real bug in FM.
Newbies Otter Posted November 13, 2007 Newbies Posted November 13, 2007 I have two clients/TV Shows who claim value list options are disappearing. The lists are set to display the values from the Week Ending field, yet it doesn't. It's worked on 5 years of previous versions, why is it not working now? Anyone?
grumbachr Posted August 12, 2008 Author Posted August 12, 2008 I wanted to bump this thread to see if anyone had learned anything new about this issue. I've now had it start happening in another file that I developed from scratch. Seems to be something weird with my configuration. But I don't see anything happen that would even begin to lead me to the cause.
Vaughan Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Are the files hosted with FM Server or on a file share? What versions of FMP Client are being used?
grumbachr Posted August 13, 2008 Author Posted August 13, 2008 They are hosted on FM Server 9 Advanced on a Windows 2003 Server. Clients accessing the files are all FM9 and I am the lone developer with access to change the value lists and I'm using 9 Advanced. If you have any idea or suggestions please let me know.
grumbachr Posted July 9, 2009 Author Posted July 9, 2009 I'm trying to do some cleanup on my database but still have this issues. Anyone else experienced it and found a resolution? It more annoying than anything. Doesn't seem to be happening anymore or effecting the file.
