anna f Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Has anyone ever had their entire relationship graph disappear? My hosted FM 8 file (Server 7 Adv), just this one out of 15, has all the records showing in define database but the layouts are unusable (table missing) since I have absolutely no table occurrences anymore! Can I restore the graph from a back up? It is a day old back up so I would rather keep all my current data and just restore the relationships. Help!
fabriceN Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Yes, had that one several times. Back to backup.
anna f Posted November 28, 2007 Author Posted November 28, 2007 What causes it? Did you ever find out? Even with a daily back up, I am losing a lot going to the back up. Is this a glitch or something that I did? I have been up without a major issue for 2 years (24/7 use of files, too). Very disconcerting...
fabriceN Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 I couldn't say for sure. Something happened on the network (a distant client crashed), but there is no evidence that this really caused it. It happened also in situations where we have no clue at all.
bcooney Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 It's happened to me (shudder just thinking about it). I believe I was in the Graph when I lost contact with the Server. Revert to last backup (we do every half hour).
AudioFreak Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 This thread is going to give me nightmares....lol. I'm almost done with a file that has a pretty big graph overall. To think that it could poof if I dc from the file is really scary. /runs off to make another backup.
datalink Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Its happened to us on a couple of occasions as well. It was as bccoony mentioned. We had a developer in the ER Graph and they lost connection with the server. We had to go to back up each time.
Colin Keefe Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 We basically never work over the WAN anymore for this reason. Instead remote workers terminal in to the office and work through that. I've had Relationships graphs get hosed, and individual layouts as well. The corruption appears to occur when a network connection drops out while actually writing a schema change. e.g. after you click Save in Define Database, but before all changes are written, or (in Layout Mode) switching to Browse mode and saving changes at that point.
