David Jondreau Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 How often do you guys use the table view in lieu of list view for user entry? I've never done it, but I'm working on this solution there's a couple attractions: 1) Resizable columns 2) Sortable columns 3) Ease of layout development The downsides I see are: 1) I have to rename my fields to something user friendly 2) I've got to come up with a workaround for my single value checkboxes that can now show "1" instead of just the box 3) I can't make the pop up lists "look nice" (I usually remove the borders and make my own without the ugly drop shadow). 4) I can't put buttons on a line (ie "Delete") Any perspectives out there? Thanks, David
AudioFreak Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 As far as the field names I have found it almost doesn't really matter because the users usually shrink them to the point the field name is unreadable. Also I have found that using subtle fill colors will help the users key in to what field is what easier. I usually use table view for a printable list view which just allows the users to resize and choose what fields will be printed. Just my 2c
David Jondreau Posted February 1, 2008 Author Posted February 1, 2008 Thanks for the reply. How do you give users the option of which fields to print? I'm moving towards "natural naming" now, so tables are looking more attractive.
AudioFreak Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 DJ, Basically as you know a piece of paper can only be so wide and print only so many fields. They just move and resize the fields until it is going to print the fields they want. Just need to have the fields available on the layout. Michael
David Jondreau Posted February 1, 2008 Author Posted February 1, 2008 Ah. Brilliant. I can put a marker in the head for the page boundary of portrait and landscape views. Thanks.
AudioFreak Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Keep in mind they can use Print Preview also :)
