FM example layout has <<field name>>

Featured Replies

I am cusotmising an example db that came with FMPRo 9 and it has what appears to be field data in text boxes denoted by <><>.

How do you add this?

What do the "<<" and ">>"" mean?

and why use this method rather than placing a field on a layout?

Regards

Craig.

Ah. They are called merge fields. While in layout mode, select Insert > Merge field (at very bottom).

They are method of inserting fields so they can flow together such as a letter like:

Dear Mr. <> <>:)

They are powerful and wonderful. Read up in Help on them and also search here on Forums to find some great uses! They allow 'sliding' while in Browse mode if placed within the same text box.
