February 2, 200818 yr I have a container field that I inserted a PDF file (reference to file) however when I click in the container it does not open the file (or short-cut to file) what am I doing wrong?
February 3, 200818 yr Try double-clicking. See also: http://www.fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/192670/post/278723/#278723
February 3, 200818 yr Author yes WITHOUT reference and I also tried double clicking. Clicking is not the problem. It won't open a PDF (or any other type of file) I can export it and open it from the desktop (for example) but cannot double click & open from within Filemaker.
February 3, 200818 yr If it's inserted as a FILE (i.e. not picture or movie), AND as a reference only, double-clicking the container will open the original file in its native application. If it's not inserted as a reference (i.e. the file is embedded in the database), you need to export it before it can be opened.
February 3, 200818 yr Author I figured out that it works properly on my PC, but not on my laptop (which is Vista OS)even when I set up a new referance point? But I don't know wht it dosen't work on Vista? and works ok on XP Any suggestions?
February 3, 200818 yr I don't know. Have you searched the Filemaker Knowledge Base for known issues regarding Vista and your version?
February 3, 200818 yr Author Yes I updated with a patch for vista, (from FM site) everything works ok as far as I know. This is the only problem I have found 8.5v2 is the ver.
February 11, 200818 yr Newbies Hi, I am trying to do the same thing. I am on XP and I can successfully insert the PDF file AND i can export it, but I cannot open the file no matter how I click it. (I am not adding as reference only, btw). Is there some kind of command or other type of action I can use to open the file in my container? Thanks in advance!
February 17, 200818 yr Author Try adding it as a referance, you will then be able to double click & open it up
