leomark Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 How can I alphabetize a value list? I have a client who wants to keep adding to a value list as she goes but needs it to be sorted A-Z afterwards. Thanks, Erik
Lee Smith Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 You would have to copy the list from the Edit Box, paste it into a text editor, Sort it, and then paste it back into the Edit Box, or manually sort them in the Edit Box. HTH Lee
Raybaudi Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 ... or make a table with only a text field and add records, each holding a value of your value list. Then keep the values of that field to get your value list. ( FileMaker will alphabetize your list )
leomark Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 Oh yeah, that's right, I remember that now! Thanks, it's been a while since I had to FM stuff. Best regards, Erik
chlowden Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 This is an old question and you have an answer that I do not understand. I have a value list of contacts names for form filling in another table. I use a value list of the contact name field to fill in the form. Naturally, I would like for the contact value list to be alphabetical as it is continually growing. the problem is that I do not understand what your reply means. Can you reexplain it for a newbie. Thank you.
Raybaudi Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 I use a value list of the contact name field to fill in the form. Your value list coming from your Contact Table is just in alphabetical order.
mr_vodka Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 As Daniele was explaining, when you create a value list based on a table, it will automatically sort it alphabetically ascending.
chlowden Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Whoops. My fault. I had the ID number infront of the title therefore it is alphabetical. Probably time to go to bed.
