So with the announcement of the new iPhone/Touch SDK what do you all think the possibility of FileMaker for iPhone is?

If I were able to interact with our remote databases with an iPhone I could quite possibly be in heaven! How neat would it be to be able to take a picture in the field with the iPhone and then be able to insert it in a container field?

That's just one mild example...I keep my fingers croseed. :)

I agree that this would be very cool. I'd love to be able to inventory control with an iPhone. However, this would be a huge paradigm shift for Filemaker. At present we don't even have primitive drag and drop scripting abilities for items in our databases. How then could Filemaker cope with an Input system which is primarily touch based?

Two very different scenatios here. The first you can already do. You can access a hosted database from the phone. See the FMPug site for example.

The phone has such a small market presence that I am not sure FMI can afford to launch a product for it right now. But who knows? They might.

Just found this on Version Tracker, anybody using this, sounds like it may be more than the toy FMMobile was. Any feedback?

Hi Everyone,

FMTouch is an extremely powerful solution, not a toy. FMTouch allows you to harness the relational power on the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch something you were not able to do with previous incarnations of mobile devices. FMTouch has also been beta tested by some of the top developers in the FileMaker Industry.

FMTouch has a very rich feature set with a number of new features currently in development. FMTouch enables you to work with multiple related tables and layouts. With FMTouch you can easily add new records, edit records, edit portal rows, delete records, delete portal rows, delete a found set, sort records, find a single record, find all records, sort records ascending and descending, switch modes from find view to browse view to table view and use value lists.

Some of the new features we are working on for the next update are simple scripting, container fields, calculations and database password protection.

FMTouch took over 6 months to write has over 30,000 lines of code and comes with two very powerful sync plug-ins that lets you securely sync your data locally or remotely.
