March 9, 200817 yr Hi there I am new here and hope I am in the right place! I have a copy of FileMaker Pro 5 and a 6 upgrade. Will this run on Windows XP? And Vista? Hope you can help!
March 10, 200817 yr Author Thank you! I have read in various places that FM6 won't run in Vista. Is there a special setting or something?
March 31, 200817 yr No special setting. Just make sure to do the upgrades. Vista problems in later versions of FMP I think come about in part because of the intense security validations that take place within the OS. The FMP 5-6 family is too dumb. It does not try to do things that it can't so it just works. I was surprised. I have a nutrition runtime program that I put into a chiropractor's office. It is in FMP 5.5. We loaded it up on Vista and it has worked ever since. On the Mac side, one of my clients has a huge system done in FMP 5-6. Some of their other systems had been moved to the 7-9 family. For the 7-9 systems, the FMP clients had to be upgraded immediately in concert with Leopard. The 5-6 system just kept on running. We are going to re-write it over the next few months. But they were in a panic that they would have to do it "yesterday".
