Remote MySQL and FMP 9

Featured Replies

Connecting (with FMP 9) to a locally hosted MySQL server (within the LAN) is well and widely documented and not too complicated. But what I haven't been able to figure out (or even find info about it) is how to connect to a remote MySQL server.

I do a lot of php/MySQL programming. I host my websites at several 'affordable' (cheap is a better word) providers which offer MySQL. My question is, would it be possible to connect to that host's MySQL server?

I solved my own thing again... I bought the ODBC drivers from Actual Tech, only 29 bucks! Works really good, got it setup in a single run.

Yes, you can connect to remote hosts. That's handled in the DSN. Once you've defined a DSN for the MySQL database, you can specify it as an ODBC data source in FileMaker.

I also have ODBC drivers from Actual Tech on my Leopard but when I go >File >Import Records > ODBC Data Source

I get the window "Select one of the data sources........." But there is no options. I have set up the ODBC on my Mac for my remote MySQL database. And on my old computer with Tiger it worked.

Did I miss to install or setup something?

Sorry I found the problem now.
