Neuronal Nerd Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 I have a portal in which I click on the client's name and it bring up the clients profile on the same layout. However, the portal then resets to the top each time where as I would like it to stay where it is. The portal is sorted by the client's last names. For instance, when I click on John Smith, my portal goes all the back to A's instead of staying in the S's. My portal is set up through a self-join relationship Clients Profile to Client List. I then use GTRR to get from the portal to the profile. Any ideas on how to keep the portal still? Thanks for any comments.
Adam M. Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 In the portal setup, uncheck the box that says "Reset scroll bar when exiting record".
Neuronal Nerd Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 Thanks, but it was already unchecked. I tried checking it and unchecking it just in case and no difference.

Neuronal Nerd Posted April 24, 2008 Author Posted April 24, 2008 Thanks Comment for leading me to the previous posts on this topic. I can follow the advice given by Laretta in which the current row is stored in a variable and then then the portal is returned to that row after the GTRR, but that still leaves me with the little portal jump. As far as the other means discussed in those posts, I'm having trouble implementing the custom function discussed by fabriceN that would help avoid that jump, so I think that some of it is still over my head as a beginner. I am still trying to implement your solution: "make the button put the selected record's SerialID in a global field. Then define a new relationship matching the global field to SerialID, and place fields from the related TO on your layout." but for some reason, the relationship does not seem to update when I change the global field. I'll keep tinkering with it. It just doesn't work and I'm sure I'm missing some small detail. Thanks for your help.
Neuronal Nerd Posted April 24, 2008 Author Posted April 24, 2008 Got it! Thanks, I see how to do it now.
