Gramps Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Hi, Im pretty new to FileMaker and need to import a table from another FM database. I need to print out the table layouts from both FM databases to ensure I import the correct fields. How can I produce a table layout...its easy in MS Access ?
bcooney Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 It's easy in FM too Just go to layout, new layout and choose Table. Select all or some of the fields. Or, select Standard, and move over the fields. Remember calc fields do not need to be moved, as they will recalc in the destination.
Lee Smith Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 I thought they wanted to print the Layout (Called Table in Access I believe), On the Macintosh, to print the layout of the current record, you select PRINT from the Menu, and then there is a Menu (defaults to Copies and Pages on the Mac), if you select it, there is a FileMaker listed. Select that, and then select the button Blank Record, showing Fields HTH Lee
bcooney Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Oh, Lee, perhaps that's what he needed. But for verifying an import/export, you need all the fields in the table, not just what's on the current layout.
Lee Smith Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 (edited) Hi Barbara, Yeah, I forgot to mention that, thanks for picking up the ball. Also, I had hesitated in answering earlier, because I wasn't sure whether or not the Print Dialog is same for both platforms. You know us Mac guys. ;) Edited May 15, 2008 by Guest
Gramps Posted May 16, 2008 Author Posted May 16, 2008 Thanks Barbara, this is sort of helpfull as it lists out all the fields but they are alphabetical so does this mean they are not actually in that sequence in the table or does this not affect the import. Also how can I find the field types / sizes etc...Thanks for any further help : The bottom line is I just need to import some other FM data into an existing table..!
comment Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 If this is in version 6, you can open the file, select Print... and from the print dialog select 'Field definitions'.
Gramps Posted May 16, 2008 Author Posted May 16, 2008 Hey...dont know your name but that's exactly what I wanted....cheers for your help..
