Exporting to Pre-Formatted Excel File

Featured Replies

I was just wondering if it is possible to export to an excel file that has all of the headers pre formatted. (ie. it doesn't show the field name as Projects::Name, but just as Name)

I've seen comments on XML but frankly I have no idea how to use it

Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks!

I've run into this same problem. I just create a formatting macro in excel to add all the relevant data to the excel output from filemaker.

Thanks WireShop,

It was definitely the right idea, I forgot about running macros, BUT for some odd reason my version of excel does not like FileMaker Pro 9 so it's not letting me import into a document. (Although I can export from FileMaker into a new blank excel sheet)

So unless I'm missing something it looks like it's back to the drawing boards

Never mind I found what I was missing. (excel still doesn't import though)

New Issue/Wish: I was hoping to format the spreadsheet in a way that it behaves similar to my database any other ideas?

I believe excel supports ODBC connectivity so I guess it would be possible to import FM data into excel this way

You can do a lot of cool stuff in excel with VBA like draw a form with buttons fields etc. and drop it right on a spreadsheet. VBA is an easy language to learn too.

How about exporting to a text file, and specifying this text file as a data source in excel? Go ahead and format all you want. Then, set excel to auto-refresh the data when it opens.

As I've been looking around ODBC does not look like it may be the best option available. Excel claims that I need Microsoft Query in order to deal with databases, which I don't have
