Wickerman Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I'm going nuts here -- I've got a simple little database I use for my own purposes, and it's real minimal in terms of function -- just a few layouts and sometimes a second window open. Somehow I tinkered with the windows, maybe doign a little layout work, or navigating to a different layout with the second window . . . and now when I open the File, the main window is hidden behind the second one and I have to drag it out and resize it. I figured onece I dragged it back tpo where it belonged, if I shut it down and re-opened, it would be back where I want it, but no . . . I know I can write opening scripts to control what windows open, what size, position etc. -- but I know there must be a default behavior to do with how windows appear upon Open depending on how they were left at the last close -- but I can't find this information anywhere in the Help or my various books. THis just is something I feel I need to know. Could someone point me the right direction? I've just upgraded to version 9, and since this has never been an issue before I'm wondering if something has changed . . . thanks albert
Tim W Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 (edited) Hi, If this file is shared, many default things come from the last session the file was opened in single user mode. To change these defaults, turn sharing off, make your changes, close the file, open the file back up and then turn sharing back on for the file. Global field default values are one of the items I know to be affected, but I think it also affects the window sizing and placement as well. HTH, Tim Edited August 11, 2008 by Guest
Vaughan Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 If you are using Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) make sure it's updated to 10.3 or later. Earlier versions caused window focus problems with FMP.
Wickerman Posted August 12, 2008 Author Posted August 12, 2008 Yep, I'm all up to date with Mac 10.5.4 -- but I tinkered around and managed to work it out -- I did have a simple script set to open with a splash screen. I tried disabling the "Perform script on Open" option in FIle Options, re-positioned the other window, then reactivated the Start-Up script and I was back to normal. Still don't really know how I got in the mess in the first place though! Albert
