Inserting Text from Word: Format problems

Featured Replies

Hey,

I’ve got a problem when it comes to pasting text that comes from MS Word into fields. What gets inserted comes with all the text formatting from the original document. But this is not what I want... Font size and font should stay the way I set it on the layout. Is there a way to insert text without the original format?

Thanks! ;) Mike

Several ways:

1. Hold the Option key and select Edit > Paste Text Only (Option-Command-V);

2. Paste and Undo once;

3. Define the field to auto-enter (with replacing);) TextFormatRemove ( Self ).

Stupid question I know but is that auto enter and calculated value with TextFormatRemove ( Self ) as the calc ?

Yes.

Hi comment,

Thank you! I like in particular the autoenter function; works great!

We just discovered a fourth method: A co-worker tried to enter data into the field not by using the copy&paste keyboard shortcuts, instead she grabbed and dragged the desired text to the field. By using this method no text formats are being passed.

(Tried it with both Mac OS 10.4 and mac:office 2004 and Mac OS 10.5 and mac:office 2008).

I wouldn't trust that to work universally (for example, it won't work when you drag'n'drop between two Filemaker fields).
